Why material matters: ASA vs PETG
Plenty of cheap 3D-printed remote holders are made from PETG. It's fine indoors, but on a boat it faces constant UV, heat soaking into a dark console, salt spray and the odd splash of fuel. PETG can soften, warp and degrade under prolonged UV exposure.
FNQI-3D's Minn Kota Advanced GPS and Lowrance Recon holders are made from ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate), an engineering plastic widely used in marine and outdoor applications. ASA offers:
- Better UV stability, resisting brittleness and fading after extended time in the sun
- Higher temperature resistance, so it holds its shape on hot decks and in enclosed storage
- Strong resistance to saltwater, fuel and cleaning chemicals
That's the difference between a holder that lasts a season and one that lasts.
Where to mount it
- Pick a high-use spot. The console, a side wall near the casting deck, or wherever you stand most when fishing off the electric.
- Dry-fit first. Hold the holder in place with the remote in it and check you can grab it one-handed without fouling cables, hatches or rod holders.
- Check the surface. A flat, solid panel is best. Avoid thin trim that flexes.
- Use marine-grade fasteners. Mounting hardware isn't included unless stated, so use stainless fasteners and seal any holes.
- Test it on the water. Make sure the remote stays put in chop and comes out cleanly with wet hands.

Will the Minn Kota holder fit my remote?
Check that your remote's shape matches the holder in the product photos. The i-Pilot Bluetooth holder and the Advanced GPS holder are separate products.
