Universal Reverse Camera Mounting Plate: Mount Almost Any Aftermarket Camera

Our Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara camera relocation brackets have been our best sellers since they launched. The question we get asked most? "Will it fit my camera?" If you're running a factory camera on a Hilux or Navara, the answer's yes. If you've got a no-name camera off eBay, a wireless kit, or something that came with a head unit, the answer used to be "not quite".

So we built the Universal Reverse Camera Mounting Plate.

Same proven base, new plate

The universal plate runs on exactly the same tilting base as our vehicle-specific kits. Same two-hole mount, same 6mm stainless cap screws, same push-in captive nuts in the hinge barrel. The only change is up top: instead of a housing shaped around one factory camera, you get a flat plate covered in slots.

That means the part that bolts to your vehicle has already done the hard yards on trays and canopies around the country. We just made the top end fit more cameras.

How it fits so many cameras

Aftermarket reverse cameras don't follow a standard. Some have a U-bracket with two screws side by side, some have a round foot, some have a flat flange with holes at odd spacings. The plate handles that three ways:

  • Radial slots run out from the centre on the diagonals, so screws can slide in or out to match the spacing on your camera's foot.
  • Horizontal and vertical slots around the edges give extra fixing points for wider brackets.
  • Centring rings on the face line up round-base cameras dead centre, so the camera sits straight before you tighten anything.

Where to use it

Anywhere you need a camera and there's no factory spot for it:

  • Ute trays and canopies, where the tailgate camera went with the tub
  • Service bodies and toolboxes
  • Caravans and camper trailers, for a permanent rear-view camera
  • Boat and box trailers
  • Trucks, tractors and machinery
  • Custom rear bars and one-off builds

Fitting it: four steps

  1. Hold your camera against the plate and find the slots that line up with its mounting holes.
  2. Fix the camera to the plate with its own screws or stainless bolts and nyloc nuts.
  3. Bolt or rivet the base to your mounting surface through the two base holes.
  4. Check the picture on your screen, set the tilt, then nip up the stainless cap screws.

Tip: before you drill anything, tape the camera and plate in place and check the view on your screen. Aim to see the towbar or rear edge of the tray at the bottom of the frame — it gives you a reference point when reversing up to a trailer.

Universal plate or vehicle-specific kit?

If you've still got your factory camera and you're running a Hilux or Navara, go with the direct-fit kit — it's made around that camera and keeps everything looking factory:

For anything else — aftermarket cameras, other vehicles, trailers and caravans — the universal plate is the one.

Built in Far North Queensland

Like everything we make, the universal plate is designed and printed here in FNQ from UV-resistant engineering polymer, with stainless hardware that won't rust out on the back of a work ute. Not sure if it'll suit your camera? Send us a message with a photo of your camera's mounting foot and we'll tell you straight.
