Pipe Notching Made Easier: A Tube Angle Cutting Jig for 25, 32, 40 & 50 mm Tube
Share
Building a roll cage, a ute rack, a trailer frame or a gate? Any time one tube meets another, the end needs to be notched (or fish-mouthed) so it sits snug against the other tube. A tight fit makes for a stronger, cleaner weld. A sloppy one means gaps you have to fill with weld.
Marking out and cutting notches freehand is slow and hard to repeat. A jig helps.

Tips for better notches
- Measure your tube first. Confirm the outside diameter matches one of the four supported sizes.
- Secure the tube. Clamp it firmly so nothing shifts mid-cut.
- Test fit before welding. Dry-fit the joint and clean up any high spots with a file or flap disc.
- Repeat with confidence. Once you've got the setup right for one joint, the jig makes it easier to match the next.
Safety
Wear eye and hearing protection and gloves when cutting and grinding steel, keep guards fitted to your tools, and keep the jig clear of the cutting path.
